Nature

Postitee is situated in a landscape area of great diversity which is typical of Southern Estonia. Travelling along the road you will enjoy remarkable views on both sides.

To preserve the historical landscape of Postitee, the Liiva-Varbuse Protection Area was established in 1981. The area also includes the Liiva Forest Key Biotype, the Ihamaru Nature Protection Area, the Palojärve Conservation Area, the Conservation Area of the Ahja and Hilba Rivers, and Tilleoru Nature Protection Area.

There are picnic site for visitors at Voorepalu which are maintained by the State Forest Management Centre, and a trail called ‘Põrgurada’ (‘road to hell’) which is about 500 metres long. In snowy winters you can have fun on the sledging and skiing slope at Voorepalu, and all year round you can test your abilities on the adventure track at Mesikamäe holiday centre. The area around the warm waters of Lake Palojärv with its camping site, is the most popular recreational area in the region. The Tilleoru hiking trail, which is about 4.5 km long, traverses several different types of forest and leads to the high-water Meriooni spring.

Those travelling on their own might unexpectedly find themselves at a genuine village party, or in the right season come home with a basketful of wild berries or mushrooms – the perfect ingredients for a tasty meal.
